Job Entry (RJE) continues to play an important role in electronic
data interchange (EDI), electronic claims filing, point-of-sale
polling and other batch transfer applications. And, despite
competition from lower-cost asynchronous communications packages,
RJE continues to be a popular file transfer utility.
One
reason is fast throughput. Synchronous protocols transfer files more
efficiently than asynchronous protocols. RJE's other strengths
include its maturity, proven effectiveness, and widespread use as a
communications standard in the automotive, retail and healthcare
industries transfer tool for many large organizations.
RECEIVE AND TRANSMIT CAPABILITIES

Queues jobs locally on a spool
before submitting them to the host.

Routes
host output to a disk file, or transmits it as standard input to a
program or shell script for processing.

Accepts PDIRs (Peripheral Data Information Records) from the host.
These can be stored in files or passed as parameters to programs
that process the input.

Optionally translates data from ASCII to EBCDIC when sending to
the host, and from EBCDIC to ASCII when receiving from the host.

Allows
you to send and receive data in 128-byte, as well as 80-byte,
records.

Supports data compression both in transferring to and receiving
from the host.
